Zooming: Optical versus Digital

The AZ631 is equipped with a 36X zoom lens, which is one of the highest among bridge cameras in the market today:

  • Optical Zoom:  This uses the lens component to magnify the image.  This is true zooming as the picture should appear as shown.
  • Digital Zoom: This uses the digital components to make the pixels larger – it does NOT magnify the image directly.  The image quality will be reduced the more digital zoom you use.
